Amman: Inauguration of the Specialized Workshop on Fertilizer Economics and Future Challenges

The Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA) officially launched the specialized workshop on Fertilizer Economics and Future Challenges today in Amman, Jordan. Held from October 14 to 16, 2025, the event is organized by AFA under the patronage of the Arab Potash Company.

The workshop was inaugurated by Eng. Shehadah Abu Hdaib, Chairman of the Arab Potash Company, Dr. Maen Nsour, CEO of the Arab Potash Company, and Chemist Saad Abou El-Maati, Secretary General of the Arab Fertilizer Association, in the presence of a large gathering of Arab and international fertilizer companies across all specialties.

The workshop features speakers from Argus, a global leader in market analysis and intelligence, covering a wide range of market-related and strategic topics. The event is attended by professionals from various departments and backgrounds within the fertilizer industry.

Topics Covered in the Workshop Include:

                •             Analysis of global fertilizer demand drivers, production cost trends, international trade flows, and regulatory/economic trade barriers

                •             Focus on the urea market: pricing, supply dynamics, and technological developments

                •             Overview of the phosphate rock market and processed phosphate fertilizers, highlighting challenges and future opportunities

                •             Discussion of grey ammonia, clean ammonia, and NPK fundamentals, with a focus on the implications of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)

                •             The growing role of ammonia as a clean energy carrier

                •             Market fundamentals for MOP and SOP (types of potash fertilizers)

                •             Analysis of the sulfur market and its global trends

                •             Overview of the sulfuric acid market and its importance in chemical and fertilizer production

                •             The impact of sustainability principles on global fertilizer markets

                •             Examination of the specialty fertilizers market, especially water-soluble fertilizers

                •             Exploration of non-agricultural markets for nitrogen (e.g., emissions control) and phosphorus (e.g., animal feed and battery metal applications)

The workshop spans three consecutive days, concluding with a field visit to the Arab Potash Company on the final day.
